Jennifer receives praise from Gary Ross and Suzanne Collins

Jennifer Lawrence as you all know is playing the female lead, Katniss Everdeen, in her up coming movie The Hunger Games which is an adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ best seller and is directed by Gary Ross.

Gary Ross, the director had said:

“I’m so excited to work with Jen and see her bring this character to life. Katniss requires a young actress with strength, depth, complexity, tenderness, and power. There are very few people alive who can bring that to a role. Jen brings it in spades. She’s an amazing Katniss.”

Suzanne Collins, the author said:

“Jennifer’s just an incredible actress. So powerful, vulnerable, beautiful, unforgiving and brave. I never thought we’d find somebody this perfect for the role, and I can’t wait for everyone to see her play it.”

Woody Harrelson on Haymitch

Woody Harrelson spoke about his time filming The Hunger Games and what Jennifer and her co-star Josh Hutcherson were like

One of the things Harrelson liked — in addition to Haymitch, of course — was working with his young co-stars, particularly Lawrence and Hutcherson.

“I think they’re just marvelous actors. I think they just knocked it out of the park,” he gushed. “Just as people, [they are] about as fun as it gets. They really are fun folks. It’s cool, because I’ve never even done a sequel, and I just signed on to four movies, so we’re going to be spending a lot of time together between doing the movies and press and everything, so it’s great to love these guys.

“Having done this first one, I can say I do look forward to doing the next one,” he added. “It wasn’t a chore. It was actually the opposite; it was a lot of fun. They managed to mix business and pleasure really well, that whole group. I’d say we get after it again next year.”

Jennifer talks The Hunger Games

Jennifer and the rest of the tribute cast had a little photoshoot with vanity fair where she talks a lot about The Hunger Games.

Tell me about how you got to be involved in this project.

I had read the books before I even knew I would be auditioning for the movie, and was a huge fan of the material. Actually, my mom read them first and thought it was an incredible role and story. She did the same thing with Winter’s Bone, so she must be a clairvoyant, or just has really great taste. Katniss is an incredible character: she’s a hunter but not a killer, a 16-year-old who’s being forced into the arena. These kids are killing one another only because if they don’t they’ll die. It’s needless, pointless, unjustified violence. It’s heartbreaking. When I auditioned, I told [director] Gary [Ross], “I understand if you don’t hire me, but please remember that after Katniss shoots a bow and kills someone, her face cannot be badass.” So there’s nothing cool about her. It’s not like she looks around the arena and goes, Yeah, I got this. I think she looks around helplessly, and thinks, I made a promise to my sister that I would survive; now I have to kill in order to do so.

Do you worry at all about the film becoming a massive phenomenon in the way ofTwilight—and what that will mean for your personal and professional life?

I try not to think too much about it. Hunger Games is not Twilight, and while I hear the comparisons, it’s really premature to say that it will be the same phenomenon. I’m so proud of the work we did on the film—Gary and the entire cast and crew were amazing, and I can’t wait for it to be brought to life because I think it’s an important story. If it does become a crazy phenomenon, I’ll soak up my freedom now!

Do you think the film will do justice in the eyes of the books’ fans?

Absolutely.

What has been the most interesting or challenging experience you’ve had on this project?

The fact that it didn’t feel like filming a movie. When we were filming in the woods, it didn’t have that Hollywood gloss—it was real snakes, real bears, and really scenes of running up and down a mountain for 13 hours.

The Hunger Games – Official movie synopsis

Lionsgate has released the official synopsis  for The Hunger Games and for the fans who were worried that they would base it on these ‘Team Gale’ and ‘Team Peeta’ but it seems they havent which is great! Read the synopsis below:

Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. Part twisted entertainment, part government intimidation tactic, the Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which “Tributes” must fight with one another until one survivor remains.

Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy. If she’s ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

Jennifer is a ‘Powerful Person’

Jennifer’s Like Crazy and The Beaver co-star Anton Yelchin says how much of a powerful person that he thinks Jennifer is and that he got to see first hand,

“I was training for a film called ‘Odd Thomas’ that I was doing at the same gym Jen was training [at for] the bow stuff and all the running,” Yelchin told MTV News recently. “I got to see her and talk to her. I think she’s amazing, and she’s a good friend of mine.”

And after checking out the “Hunger Games” teaser, Yelchin had firsthand knowledge of what it took for Lawrence to become Katniss. He was impressed, but not surprised.

“When I saw Jen, it was different kinds of physical training she was going through, like running training,” he said. “She’s such a powerful person. She can do anything she puts her mind to. If she needs to transform for something, she’ll transform. If she needs to learn how to kill you with the bow, she’ll do that. She’ll do anything she needs to do.”

Elizabeth Olsen; the next Jennifer Lawrence

IFC had an article on Elizabeth Olsen and how she’s the new ‘it girl’ and how Jennifer’s Winters Bone co-star John Hawkes got the same vibe from Olsen as he did from Jennifer.

“It’s fantastic,” he told IFC. “It’s vindicating as well, when you’re working with someone who’s a powerhouse, a young person who just out of the blue is a surprise. It’s been a real gift to be part of these young women’s journeys, and it’s really rewarding.”

When Hawkes was shooting “MMMM,” “Winter’s Bone” was yet to be released, but according to him, “I had this flashback feeling … the same joy and the same amazement in working with her. I was reminded of Jennifer.” (Hawkes, by the way, plays Elizabeth’s cult leader in the film).
